The UC Berkeley Ethnic Studies Library has its origins in the 1969 Third World Liberation Front student strike at San Francisco State University and UC Berkeley that led to the creation of Ethnic Studies. The ESL was formally established in Stephens Hall in 1997 where it continues its mission of preserving and amplifying the histories of communities of color in the United States.
The Ethnic Studies Library shares digital archives through Calisphere and the Internet Archive. In Omeka, we share community collaborations and experimental projects with the goal of making our resources accessible in multiple ways within the capacities of our repository.
